The National Rifle Association (NRA) is an organization which is based around the second amendment, the right to bear arms. Through television, radio, internet, etc., the NRA utilizes several types of media to gather and maintain members. In an effort to form a militia which could keep the United States Government in check, the NRA was formed in New York, 1871. The association and its initial members thought that if the government confiscated all the country’s weapons, then they would have too much power over the people.
