The English as a people were created from a different mold than that of the rest of the world. The English respond differently to situations, and they go about life in a different manner. The famous writer E.M. Forster wrote an interesting essay entitled “Notes on the English Character,” and in this essay he portrays the way in which the English go about living their lives. In his essay he tries to enlighten his readers on the truth about the English. His observations can also be seen through literature and motion pictures. In the Book Brave New World and the motion picture Gandhi the English are portrayed as rude and undesirable. Therefore Forster’s “Notes on the English Character” makes evident their unsympathetic, reserved, and cautious behavior, and this is present in both Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and the motion picture Gandhi.
