Many adults are oblivious to how many teens are addicted to drugs today. Many teens enter their adult lives as drug addicts. Everyone around drug addicts deals with it in a harsh way. Drug addiction affects our society today in more ways than one. It’s becoming more and more of a problem each day. It’s affecting our communities, schools, and even worse- our relationships with each other.
Most people know what the effects of drug addiction are, but few know the causes. Most drug addicts started using at a young age. For example, my own mother started smoking pot when she was only 13. By the time she was 15, she became addicted to cocaine and also pregnant with a child. When children are raised around drugs, they often do them growing up too. It may start off as an experiment, but it usually turns into drug abuse. Obviously this is a big way of affecting our society. Parents who are on drugs influence their children to do them as well, and then we have more drug addicts. I have no contact with my father (he is a “recovered” drug addict), my mother is in rehab currently (I just recently started talking to her), and my older brother is in jail for drug abuse. The only time my mother would contact me is when she was in jail or rehab. Being that my mother was never around, my older sister often took care of me. Most of my memories of my learning things was with her. Now she is 19 years old, addicted to meth. This greatly affects my household ( my grandparents, my brother, 5 year old, and me). When a family member is addicted to drugs, it ruins relationships and also makes the other children unstable and/or depressed.
