Child Labor

Jun 20 2011

Earlier in the month, I went to Joe’s shoe factory. I went there to see how safe the factory is. I also went there to see child labor going on, and how they treated the children. Another reason I went there was to see how the factory ran, and every thing else.

When I first walked in, I saw that the entire factory was just women and children. There was only one or two men making sure the others were doing there job. The women and girls were mostly wearing dresses. The small boys were wearing pants and a t-shirt. None of them had shoes on. I asked one of the children how much they were being paid and he about five cents a day. I interviewed one of the women about her job. This what she said

“I get paid about 10 cents every day. My two children work here also. My job is to sew the top of the shoes to the soles. I work every day except we get off work early on Sundays to go to church. I work from 6:00 A.M. until about 7:00 P.M. That is also the same with my children.”

Next, I looked at the work conditions of the factory. It was not good. There was needles and pins on the floor. The women and children were not wearing any shoes. There were machines with big needles that the children had to get working again. When anyone would get hurt, they would be fired if there injury was too serious. They was no medical help in the factory. The women’s dresses could have been caught in the machines.

That is how the factory was and I didn’t like it. They really need to change there ways. I hope that the law does something about child labor. I am glad that I never had to work in a factory. I feel bad for the employees.

That is my report from Joe’s Shoe Factory!
